Providing process solutions to decarbonize and reduce the environmental impact of water and energy resources

Contributing to the realization of a sustainable society
by the development of cell culture equipment that meets customer needs
with the use of fluid and thermal control technology

Cell agriculture, including cultured meat, is attracting attention as foodtech to solve the food crisis attributable to the impending population explosion and climate change. Structural proteins produced by fermentation are expected to be used as new materials that do not rely on conventional petroleum products. The control of fluids, such as culture medium, oxygen, and carbon dioxide, and temperature control are important processes for cell cultures, which are a common element to both cultured meat and structural proteins. We are utilizing the engineering that EBARA CORPORATION has cultivated since its foundation to realize a highly efficient and high-quality cell culture process.

Social issues and EBARA’s solutions

Aiming for sustainable food production while reducing environmental impact through cell agriculture

We are promoting the development of culture equipment and related materials for the cultured meat with the following joint research partners.
1) In collaboration with Integriculture Corporation, we will scale up the CulNet System that reproduces interactions between organs in vitro to promote the production of useful growth factors, thereby contributing to mass supply and cost reduction of cell culture media.
2) In collaboration with CELLFIBER Co., Ltd., we will achieve high quality and high density mass culture by the cultivation technology inside hollow gel fibers (cell fiber).
3) Research on dedifferentiated adipocytes (DFAT) in collaboration with Nihon University to establish cell source suitable for cultured meat and to achieve mass culture and cost reduction.

Development of cell culture processes backed by EBARA's technology and knowledge

We promote culture process solutions with each partner using EBARA's expertise in heat and fluid technologies to develop new equipment and expand into the bio industry.
In order to realize a culture environment, we design the equipment to precisely control the concentration, temperature, pH, etc. of each component in the fluid.
We are developing equipment and processes by integrating the biotechnologies of culture and biomaterials based on the technologies of each of our joint research partners with EBARA's engineering technologies related to equipment design and manufacturing.

Developing fermentation processes by integrating biotechnology with mechanical technology

In order to break through the challenges of mass production of materials produced by structural proteins and cost reduction in the manufacturing process, we are working to improve the efficiency and sophistication of the manufacturing process by utilizing the EBARA Group's technologies.
By integrating biotechnologies and mechanical technologies, we innovate manufacturing processes and propose solutions in new areas.
