Research and Development

What is EBARA Open Laboratory (EOL)?

EBARA Open Laboratory (EOL) is a corporate research organization that promotes human resources exchanges of researchers and open research themes within the company. As well as full-time researchers, engineers engaged in product development and design in their respective business divisions also work concurrently in the EOL, contributing to the horizontal roll-out of technologies that transcend the boundaries between the businesses and the companies.

Examples of Technologies

EBARA’s sustainable growth is supported by Common Founding Technology for cross-business roll-out, Numerical Analysis and Instrumental Analysis Technology that provides strong problem-solving support in research and development, and Advanced & Applied Technology to enhance product competitiveness.

Unique Efforts

EOL has established an environment that allows researchers to generate innovation through a variety of approaches.

Joint research with external institutions

This is EBARA’s own unique style of open innovation, in which we conduct joint research to solve high-level technological problems, while cultivating young researchers at external research institutions. We are currently involved in joint research with over 50 research labs at over 30 universities.

Prototype development with small businesses

This is an activity for the open exploration of suppliers of research and development, without being confined to existing groups of suppliers. We support research activities through matching with the specialized technologies of other companies and by developing prototypes of parts that are necessary for research and development. Through collaboration with small businesses, we aim to contribute to our local community and to build collaborative frameworks that will be win-win for both EBARA and our local community.

Encounters with cutting-edge technical information

These are activities that aim to raise the technological capabilities of in-house engineers and to create ideas for new research, by creating opportunities for engineers to encounter advanced technologies and research and development. They include lectures given by invited professors who are involved in joint research and other researchers in Japan and from overseas.

Aim to create new businesses for the next generation

This is a new research and development mechanism that aims to create new businesses (= New ‘X’) Currently, four themes are in progress, namely “innovating production technology innovation”, “using additive manufacturing”, “improving design efficiency with ICT and AI”, and “promoting smart development plants with improved design efficiency.”

Technical Journal, “EBARA Engineering Review”

This journal presents information on research and development outcomes and technology trends, as well as easy-to-understand explanations of products, technologies, and services.
