Flattening technology for CMP systems to support an affluent society

Our CMP systems, boasting the world’s second-largest market share, polish wafers to a flat surface with high precision

If there is something you want to know or music you want to listen to... What do you do? Many of you may use smartphones or tablets to connect to the Internet. Semiconductors are essential for both smart devices and the Internet. It is also semiconductors that make our lives more convenient by enabling us to operate our air conditioners or fill the bathtub with hot water at home while we are out.
The Precision Machinery Company produces semiconductor manufacturing equipment that plays a role in the CMP process, one of the semiconductor manufacturing processes. Semiconductors have a multilayer structure, and the more advanced the product, the more layers they have. As such, wafers are polished repeatedly using a CMP system to flatten them. CMP systems also have the function of cleaning the abrasive residue and fine particles left on the wafer surface after polishing. We hold the second-largest global market share of CMP systems, which are widely used in cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing fabs owing to their excellent process performance, diverse functions, flexible equipment configurations, and high production efficiency. They are used all over the world, from mass production lines to experiments, and R&D. The total number of units shipped to date has reached 3,000 (as of January 2022).
