Carbon Neutrality Efforts by the EBARA Group

EBARA Group's goal of carbon neutrality

Under its long-term vision, "E-Vision2035," the Ebara Group aims to become "a global excellent company essential to realizing a sustainable society" by 2035.

To address the global challenge of achieving a decarbonized society, we are committed to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by approximately 250 million metric tons of CO₂ equivalent.

◆2050 Carbon Neutrality Roadmap (First issued in 2025, revised in 2026)

*GHG:greenhouse gases, Greenhouse Gas abbreviation.

*1. Targets for Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a joint initiative of WWF, CDP, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the United Nations Global Compact, as science-based near-term targets.

*2. GHG emissions reductions are calculated in CO₂-equivalent terms based on the difference in emissions before and after the adoption of our products. The figure includes avoided emissions calculated with reference to guidance from the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).

GHG emission reduction targets in the value chain

Scope1,2
2030 target: 55% reduction compared to 2018 (1.5°C level)*

*The reduction target is consistent with the 1.5℃ level target of the Paris Agreement.

*1. Our 2030 targets for Scope 1 and 2 emissions have been validated by the SBTi (a joint initiative of WWF, CDP, World Resources Institute [WRI], and the UN Global Compact) as science-based near-term targets.

Efforts to Reduce Emissions

  1. Promoting energy efficiency and conservation
  2. Upgrading energy-intensive equipment at the optimal time
  3. Electrifying fuel sources
  4. Introducing solar power generation systems and procuring renewable electricity
  5. Switching from HFCs to natural refrigerants

▼ Photovoltaic Installations

01. EBARA Fujisawa Plant

A 1.9 MW solar power generation system has been installed and is in operation on the roof of our Fujisawa Plant in Kanagawa Prefecture.

02. EBARA Refrigeration Systems

EBARA REFRIGERATION EQUIPMENT & SYSTEMS (CHINA) CO., LTD. in Yantai, China, uses green electricity from an on-site PPA (Power Purchase Agreement).

Internal Carbon Pricing (ICP)

We have set an internal carbon price (ICP) at JPY 17,000/t-CO₂ and use it in decision-making for capital investment and renewable energy procurement.

Scope 3 (category 11)
2030 target: 25% reduction from 2021 (WB2°C level)*

*The reduction targets are consistent with Well Below 2 Celsius target of the Paris Agreement.

*1.Our 2030 targets for Scope 3 emissions have been validated by the SBTi (a joint initiative of WWF, CDP, World Resources Institute [WRI], and the UN Global Compact) as science-based near-term targets.

Efforts to Reduce Emissions

  • Increase the efficiency of our products
  • Promote customer and supplier engagement
  • Introduce milk runs when procuring parts

GHG Emissions Reduction Contribution Targets for Customers

Contribution to Customer GHG Emissions Reduction through Our Products and Services

We support our customers in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through our products and services, aiming to achieve a reduction equivalent to approximately 250 million metric tons of CO₂.

This target reduction represents the cumulative amount that eligible products sold from 2023 to 2035 can reduce over their operating lifespan. The calculation compares emissions before and after the introduction of our products and services to quantify the reduction impact.

*Includes emissions reduction contributions calculated partially with reference to guidance from the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).

Target products and services

  • Energy-saving building and industrial equipment (pumps)
  • Efficiency enhancement through modifications of fluid machinery such as compressors and turbines (Engineered Services)
  • High-efficiency water pumping systems for municipal water supply and agriculture
  • Waste-to-energy and biomass power generation
  • Expanders for LNG plants
  • Exhaust gas treatment systems (hydrogen-fueled combustion, fluorine fixation, dry-type, etc.)

Creating Businesses that Support the Realization of a Carbon-Neutral Society

We are developing products that support the realization of a society powered by hydrogen and ammonia as energy resources. Additionally, we are advancing product development for carbon capture and utilization (CCU) systems, as well as process development for recycling plastics into chemical feedstocks.
